That Warm Smile

There was once a Princess, who lived a very stoic life. She resided over a small kingdom. The Princess was fair and very kind, she met many would be Princes, but none of them treated her properly. The Princess rejected them one after the other, feeling as if she would never fine her one true love. One day a Pleasant farmer came across the Princess in his travels, in town to sell his harvest. The Peasant was young and generous. He showed her the kindness that many of those before hadn't. The Princess was smitten with the Peasant, but his family needed him daily, so with but a gentle wave and a warm smile the Peasant left. A man she hardly knew, a man she had only heard his name once had captured her heart with his generosity. This left the Princess saddened. Desperate to find the Peasant, the Princess set out across the lands seeking the Peasant. She had left her safe castle and her pampered life to find what truly made her happy, love.

The Princess went from town to town asking about the Peasant, his name making her lips quiver as she imaged whispering it to him many times over. His warm smile being the one thing that kept her going! She was awestruck in her travels, never had she seen such beautiful and diverse lands before, surely traveling these roads would bring inner peace to any who constantly traveled it. 'It must be why he was always happy, even when he was so far from his family' she thought. From the gorgeous lakes and bright green forests to the purple mountains far off in the distance. The towns upon the road were filled with such nice people, none of them born with a silver spoon in mouth. 'It must've been what kept him so humble and tender, everyone must work together to live out here.' she thought, her mind painting a beautiful picture of her life with the Peasant. She traveled endlessly, only stopping to rest. As the days went on and she became closer to her love, her heart began to skip just thinking of his face.

The Princess had traveled long and far, and after many tireless weeks she had arrived at the town the Peasant was said to reside in. All those she spoke too knew of the man, but none wished to speak of him. This had puzzled the Princess. Why would the townsfolk act in such a way? She looked throughout the town, asking of the Peasant. Each time the people would grow quiet when she brought up the Peasant. Soon she was able to coax out the location of the Peasant's farm. With a bright smile upon her face she strolled through the town as happy as can be, making her way to the Peasant's farm. As she skipped along the road she thought of his warm smile and his beautiful name. Finally coming to the farm she saw two children working in the fields and a middle-aged couple on the porch. Stopping a step from the porch she introduced herself, the couple was surprised and honored to have the Princess visit them, but they were also confused as to why she was there. Skipping to the point, she let out the Peasant's name and wished to see him. The couple cringed and the middle-aged woman nearly broke into tears at mention of her son's name. The Princess didn't understand why the woman was crying. The man stood up and waved her to the door. Stepping into the doorway she could see inside the house, sitting on the mantle was a broken sword under his picture. The man turned to her and told her that his son had been killed by bandits protecting his parents and young siblings. The Princess was racked with sadness, the only man she actually loved was taken away and she could never have him back.

All that remained of the Peasant was the broken sword and the picture with the warm smile she fell in love with.

Broken and Unwanted

"Betrayed, devastated, distraught, alone....Those are the emotions I felt....When I struck down my friends..." The man hacked, blood pouring from his mouth. The dreary rain beating down on his blood soaked armor. His eyes slowly blink as his regrets haunt him. "I struck 'him' down first...he told me that 'she' had been sleeping with him ...like a Rajang unchained I beat him to death with these swollen fists..." Hanging his somber head, the rain pelted the headpiece of his armor. His friend's face fresh on his mind as it became apparent that he wasn't alone in the field. "Next was...my leader, a great man...he assured me all would settle...but I took my blade to his back...severing his spine..." Slowly from the brush arose his audience. It's menacing white hairs coming from the deep purple skull, a scar roaming across it's face, becoming a crack that went down it's jaded beak. It's white mane a dark grey from the rain, parted on either side of it's neck. The hard compact scales flexing at each movement of it's head. The Slender, yet solid carapace that decorated it's back went down it's hard shell covered tail, ending in several spikes each dripping with poison. The monster's thin legs plated in solid scales. A deep purple glow seemed to emit from it's body. The fearsome Yian Garuga looked over at the half dead hunter with thoughts of quenching it's hunger.

"Ugh then...it was my sister...she loved our leader...for what I did...she buried her lance in me...I caved her skull in with but a simple slam with my blade's pommel..." He lifted his hand to his face, staring at the blood that coated it. He ached as if a knife was thrust through his heart, he wish one had been...anything would have been better than sitting here, thinking of his actions. "After her...that left only one...the one who caused it all...the one who granted me both joy....and sorrow...hearing of your betrayal...I...was nothing but a bug....small and insignificant...the world passing me, leaving me... in it's wake..." The man's cough became more violent, his ribs cringing in pain. The Garuga tip-toed closer...inspecting it's prey. "She believed she had done nothing wrong...So she thought I should just...Rot...I was left broken, destroyed..." Coughs interrupting his words the man laughed to himself, now he truly was as broken as she left him. "...Grabbing her as she went to leave...I clenched my fist and smashed in her face...that lovely face with the adorable blond hair...It..it felt so wrong..." tears started to form at his eyes blending in with the rain that draped across his dirty face. "Her....lovely voice going shrill...as she snapped back from my bloodied fist...she was a skilled hunter...but even she didn't see that coming...drawing her weapon...she looked at me with disgust...she...the nerve...to make me into this and then...place the blame...on me."

"I'm...sorry for jawing this story...but I felt..I just had to tell....someone of the atrocities I committed...If you wish to devour me...I'll offer little resistance." The Garuga merely tilted it's head in curiosity at the sounds it's prey made. Inching closer to the man. It's beak salivated as the blood in the air tickled it's senses. "She came at me with her weapon...that...menacing hammer...bigger...than your head...hehe...she is the one who left me in this crippled state....for you see...I couldn't bring myself to strike her down....It wasn't until I....heard that laugh...that arrogant, down putting laugh....that I lopped off her arm...her screams ended fast....as I slew with another swing...shredding open her innards...she looked at me...with sadness...she was sorry for...what happened...that...is what hurt the most...my injuries were nothing then...the realization of those events...are what made me come here...seeking you...or any other beast..." Moaning in pain, the man forced himself to his feet. Lifting his blade to face the beast before him. "I'm sorry...for boring you...damned beast...put me...Out Of My Misery!"

Pumpkin Pie
Scotty had been walking home from his bus stop when he noticed a new store had appeared. The small shopping center only contained six stores the day before. The new building had appeared out of nowhere!

He was sure that his mother wouldn’t mind of he went to see what was in the store. Scotty turned down the sidewalk towards the store and up the steps to the door.

Ding! Ding! Rang the tiny bells dangling from the edge of the top of the door. The curious boy tiptoed to the front desk where nothing but still air presided. Scotty was amazed, the store was huge! It was like a Costco with only plants. Still intensely curious, he went to go look around. He was sure that there was at least one of every single kind of plant in the world here. What caught his eyes the most though, was a bright orange pumpkin patch in the middle of it all.

Once he got to it he was still amazed how this entire building appeared out of nowhere in a day. The pumpkin patch was only about one hundred square feet, but every inch had a pumpkin in it. There was every single size of pumpkin from two inches wide to two hundred inches wide. Scotty heard a crunching sound behind him and flipped around. An old man stood at the opposite end of the patch. He stood unflinching as Scotty stared at him.

The man appeared frozen, returning Scotty’s stare.

Scotty examined the age-conquered male. He had clothes that you would expect an old farmer to wear. Pale blue jeans and a red and white checkered, long sleeve collared shirt. Semi circle glasses rested upon his nose, making his eyes appear larger than they physically were.

His eyes grew wide, still stuck on the boy. “Hello, would you like a plant of specific sort?” said the man in a calm, but somewhat eerie tone.

“No, I’m just looking around. I noticed this new store on my way home and I wanted to see what was in it.” Replied Scotty.

“All right then. If you need assistance ring the bell on the front counter.” The shopkeeper replied back. As Scotty started walking away the man muttered, “If you can find it.” In a calm, but even more eerie and creepy tone.

“I’m sorry?” Scotty questioned, not hearing what had been uttered by the old man. As he turned around though, the man had disappeared from sight.

Scotty was confused about it for a few seconds, but then thought nothing of it and continued examining the plethora of plant species. He was walking towards a giant pitcher shaped plant when all of the lights in the shop seemed to flicker in sync.

In the front of the store the old shopkeeper flipped the open sign around to indicate the store was closed and pulled a cage door with a metal curtain across behind the front counter. If you walked into the store then it would only appear to be a front counter and a few plants.

Scotty looked around at all of the flickering lights and then walked out the aisle he was in. The area with the pumpkin patch was like a mini New York’s Central Park only instead of buildings surrounding it, there were aisles upon aisles of greenery. The boy continued out of the aisle to the edge of the open area of plants. The lights all at once seized their flickering. The entire store plunged into darkness.

Small lights lining the the edges of the aisles faded on, giving the store a creepy glow. The exception was the entire middle area. The only visible parts of it were around the outside of it. A light shot on in the middle of the pumpkin patch, beam down light on an old man. He stood already staring at Scotty from across the field of plants.

The man was dead still. In his hands was a pie pan as far as Scotty could tell.

“W-what’s going on sir? Is the power out?” Scotty slipped out.

“No. No power outage at all. Just personal enjoyment! Hahaha!” The old man threw the pie into the air and the light above him flicked off.

Silence.

The pie did not hit the ground, thought Scotty. A light flickered above him and a pumpkin pie sat on the ground in front of him. Scotty’s eyes got wide and his skin turned pale. He sprinted away down the aisle.

Around Scotty demented laughing could be heard

Six hours later Scotty’s mother had called the police and asked them to help find him. So the police were searching around his bus stop. They walked into the new store asking if the man had seen Scotty and the man insisted they search the store since it was so big. The man also told him he heard the door bells ring earlier, but had not seen anyone enter since he was tending to the pumpkins. The police searching through aisles upon aisles. Once they came to the last aisle, however, they glimpsed a figure sitting in the fetal position at the end of the aisle. It was Scotty.

Imagine

A little boy ran in between two very large mounds of trash with a pot on his head and a metal pole in his hand. He waved the pole at an imaginary creature, keeping it at bay while he ran around the trash mounds. All at once the creature was no longer in his mind and he fought alongside hundreds of men in a battle against thousands of other men. The boy ran up a mound of debris and jumped off acting all acrobatic. He spun around in the air and flung the metal pole into a mountain of garbage where it stuck protruded.

The boy, named Scotty, sat down panting. A gleam of gold was seen out of the corner of his eye. A chrome gold-trimmed book was laying a few feet to his side and he immediately took immense interest in it. Scotty jumped over to it and snatched it out of the pile of trash. He had read many books so he was a fairly well reader. The title of the gold-lined book read Imagicon. The boy quickly turned to the first page where there weren't any words, but intricate designs and drawings. When the boy's gaze was drawn to the central drawing a thin blue beam of light connected his eyes with the paper. The gold trimming on the entire book faded and glowed a neon blue.

Imagination became reality as Scotty's thoughts poured into the world as dragons, armies, monsters, and heroes.  The dragon flew by Scotty and lit a mound of trash on fire. Scotty remained staring at the book with the blue beam keeping his eyes on the pages. He glowed neon blue to go along with the book's trimming. Everything that he had imagined in the last minute became real. All of the imaginations instantaneously faded and a rift opened in the fabric of space and time ten feet away from Scotty. A completely chrome silver man floated out of the rift.

Scotty knew that everything around him was real and that they were his imaginations, but he could not break the beam keeping his gaze on the book. He sat there helpless. The imagined man had grown a power of his own because otherwise Scotty could have controlled him. Scotty knew the danger, but could do anything about it. The chrome man slowly walked towards him. The man waved his hand sluggishly through the air and a streak of chrome silver liquid suspended in the air following his hand. As his hand came back to his side the liquid formed a curved blade that outclassed any other. The blade hung in the air as if he was controlling it with his mind.

Scotty's gaze on the book finally broke and the thin beam went into the book. He was still into the book even though he wasn't looking at it. He held it open in his hand and looked up at the chrome silver man. Scotty's eyes were glowing neon blue. The man seemed a little frightened, but continued with his silver blade. The suspended sword slid through the air towards Scotty, who was now floating about two feet off the ground. The sword diminished into a billion tiny particles an inch from Scotty's head and sucked into his iris's. The boy smiled and faced the open book towards the silver man. The man flinched as the book shot out continuous blue light from it's pages. The man diminished as the blade did and flew into the iris's of a confused boy.

Scotty then woke up laying on a pile of trash with a book titled Imagicon in his hands. He opened the book and gazed upon pictures of a dragon, three men flying, and on the last page, a chrome silver man with a tear in the space behind him. Scotty looked into it’s eyes and the man’s two-dimensional head turned to stare back into Scotty’s eyes.

Take to the Skies

There was once a bird, he was a young little blue jay. But he injured his wing some time ago and could no longer fly. He sat around in his nest all day, his only activity was walking along his branch and watching the other birds soar into the sky. One morning he heard someone calling him, he looked up from his nest and saw another blue jay standing over him. It was a girl, she looked down at him with a mean look.

"Why aren't you flying?!" she asked him. "It's almost time to head south and you're just laying here!" The boy sat up in his nest and looked down before talking.
"I...can't fly. I hurt my wing a long time ago and I can't use it anymore." the boy said, finally making eye contact with the girl.
"Rubbish, now on your feet, we're gonna fly!" she snapped, walking to the end of his branch. "Well, c'mon!"
"Well alright, but I warned ya I can't fly." the boy replied, following the other blue jay to the end of the branch. He took a deep breath as he looked out into the sky.
"Now...Fly!" said the girl, leaping from the branch. Her wings opening in a beautiful flutter as she gracefully took to the skies. The boy slowly approached the tip and shut his eyes. With a gentle hop, the blue jay leaves the tree and the push of the wind hits his body, opening his wings as his eyes open. The ground racing up at him he flaps his wings frantically before giving up. Doubt, causing him to stop trying and brace for the crash.

The girl watched in horror as his body bounced across the ground, she immediately came in for a landing and went to check on the boy. Finding the boy unconscious on the ground she flapped her wing in front of him, giving him a wave of air. She smiled when she saw the boy start to come around before helping him back into his nest. She felt sorry for what happened to him and couldn't help but feel a little responsible.

"I'm sorry, I didn't understand." She said, looking away from the boy. Without waiting for a reply she simply took off into the sky. The boy looked up from his nest in sorrow, he hobbled to the end of his branch and watched her flutter off into the blue. Returning to his nest he cursed his wing and in vain he continually hopped up and down in his nest, fluttering his wings like crazy. Finally resting for the night he curled up and fell asleep, saddened that he couldn't fly.

The coming morning he was wide awake and stretching his wings, a look of determination on his face. Not even considering the consequences he ran to the end of the branch and leapted into the air. Flapping his wings non-stop as he slowly dropped to the ground. Hitting with a bounce he was sore, but still okay. He hopped on the ground frantically flapping his wings to no avail. Silently groveling to himself he saw a blue jay go overhead, it was the girl from yesterday. He ducked in the high grass to hide from her, he didn't want her to see him on the ground again.

Slowly he made his way through the high grass until he came to a fence. Getting a short lift out of his wings he slowly climbed up the fence until he sat upon the wooden post looking at his nest. Again he stretched his wings out, his eyes not leaving his tree as he leaned forward. Taking a quick hop he spread his wings and flapped to get moving, catching the wind he held them out allowing him to dive and pull up, his wings in a flutter to gain altitude. His branch on the tree grew ever closer as he finally looked down. He was flying! His shadow was cast on the ground racing to catch up with him as he brought his wings to a flutter, landing on his branch. He was so happy to fly again, he spent the whole day flying circles around his tree until he was completely out of energy. With a great smile on his face, he collapsed in his nest and slept the night away.

He awoke to the chirping of birds, many of which were taking too the sky. He went to the end of his branch and looked into the sky, his envy gone. As he watched the other birds begin their move south he saw a blue jay amongst them, it was the girl from before and she was alone. walking back to his nest he smiled and said his goodbyes. With a great run to the tip of the branch he leapted into the wild blue yonder. His beautiful wings catching the sunlight as he rose through the air!

"Hey!...Hey!...It's me!" hollered the boy, trying to catch the girl. Slowly she looked back, taken aback in shock as she saw him fly up next to her.
"You're flying! How?" She asked, honestly stumped.
"My wings healed a long time ago...I just never had the confidence to learn to fly again. Thank you so much!"
"What'd I do?"
"I wanted you to see me fly, I wanted to fly with you! So...are you still going South?" the boy said, a bright smile on his face.
"Yeah, think you can keep up?" the girl asked, a smirk on her face as she took off in front of him.
"Let's find out!" The boy replied, racing after his new friend.

My body screams out, letting loose everything, leaving no emotion unexpressed. My mind races, shouting my failures for all to hear! I stand before you, a broken fool, I ruined what I loved most. I have proved beyond doubt my unworthiness, knowing that all I have brought is despair. I am crushed under the realization that you deserve better than me, there is so much more that I could never give.. So here I stand, every fiber of my being ripped, my soul torn from my body because of my actions, cast into oblivion as just punishment.

I plummet into this deserving fate, never to be acknowledged again. As I continue to fall I can only pray that you find the one who is truly yours, he who won't leave you as broken as I. My soul finally lands, surrounded by the Ukoback, their cackling and taunting well earned...each reminding of why my place is forever in their grasp. Through their taunting I look upward into the abyss above, my prayers still as adamant as before, hoping that 'he' is far superior to me. My world begins to darken, my mind haunted.

Your tears, all I can see is your tears...running down your soft face. My pain becomes nothing but the intense sadness I placed upon you, numb to the physical tasks placed upon my body. My eyes tear, showing my sadness, bringing about the cackles of my tormentors, unaware it isn't them that makes me cry. My hatred of myself begins to consume my being, accepting my fate without struggle. My mind is filled with nothing but our memories, forcing me to live over the torment I put upon you. Suddenly I see a light shine down on me. It hurts, the pain it brings so immense. I begin to ascend upward, my mind screaming for the torture to stop. I pray aloud, begging for your happiness. I feel myself lifted to where I was prior, standing before you, your eyes red as tears drip from your cheek. I pray you find true happiness, I am sure that I could not bring you such happiness, yet here I am.....

"Sorry."

I read this yesterday night before leaving, and even though I already apologized, I just want to say to you again...I'm really sorry for all the trouble I've caused and all the hurt, pain, and suffering I gave you.. and even though you already forgave me, forgive me again?

There was once a little fox that would venture out into the forest looking for fun, there he would laugh and play all day, returning to his warm little den when he no longer had the energy to play. Then one day as he frolicked through the woods he met a little bird. The Bird looked at the Fox and sang his little birdsong, entertained the Fox sat under the tree and listened to the Bird sing. The Bird would sing and sing until he was out of breath. The Fox then called out to the Bird, telling the Bird how beautiful his song was as he yawned. He thanked the Bird for the song before returning to his den to sleep for the night. The next day the woke up and continued to play in the woods.

This day, the Fox met a Rabbit and the Rabbit was practicing running. The Fox enjoyed watching the Rabbit and wanted to play with him, slowly the Fox walked up to the Rabbit and asked if he could race with the Rabbit. The Rabbit, always happy for a race accepted the challenge. The Fox and the Rabbit stood side-by-side as they watched a leaf fall, the moment it touched the ground as the sign to start. The Rabbit took off to early lead, leaving the Fox behind. Slowly the Fox started to reel in the Rabbit, picking up speed as the Rabbit burned his energy. The Rabbit wasn't done yet though, for he had been running for a long time and could go on for quite awhile. Even so, the Fox was catching the Rabbit as they saw the river, their finish line in the distance. Barely on the finish line the Fox passed the Rabbit just as they reached the river. Both panting heavily, they smiled at their tie, promising to race again one day before the Fox slowly walked back to his den for the night.

The next day the Fox woke up to the sound of Rain beating outside his den, sighing to himself the Fox curled up in a ball and just listened for the rain to stop when Suddenly he felt something pop up from under him, startling him as a little Mole came from under the ground. The Mole faintly looked around the dark den, trying to feel his surroundings when he noticed the Fox and said he was sorry for digging into the Fox's den. The Fox said it was alright before asking the Mole to stay and keep him company. The Mole thought it over before agreeing and sat beside the Fox talking with him. The Mole told the Fox about all the things he does when stuck in the Rain and suggested the Fox try something to do until the Rain stopped. The Mole then took out a lantern from his tunnels and hung it upon the roof of the Fox's den before showing the Fox how to make shadow puppets. The Mole showed the Fox so many of the puppets he could make and even taught the Fox how to make a few of them, even though they all didn't come out as good as the Mole's. Unfortunately the Rain never let up even when the Mole had to leave. The Fox asked that the Mole leave him a lantern to practice his puppets in throughout the night as he waited for the rain to end.

The next day the rain had finally stopped, the Rabbit had came to the Fox's den for his rematch, the Bird waited in the tree above waiting to sing his newest song, and the Mole eagerly dug a new hole outside the Fox's den, hoping to show him the new Shadow puppet he made. Slowly the little Fox crawled out of his den. Surprised to see all his friends waiting for him. The Fox let out a big yawn, laughing loudly as followed his friends, knowing today was gonna be the best day ever.
